Erica Landreneau Fontenot is a middle school science and math teacher at Bayou Chicot Elementary School in Ville Platte, Louisiana. Erica was chosen as a JASON Educator Argonaut for the 2013 expedition aboard the Nautilus. In the past 12 years as a teacher, she has attended various trainings, conferences, workshops, and other expeditions throughout the United States. In a few of her trainings, she explored and examined the primordial organisms and geologic features found in Yellowstone National Park, investigated the land loss and affect on native species in Louisiana’s wetlands, mapped an extinct volcano’s caldera in Big Bend National Park, and met with BP officials and toured their facilities in Houston, Texas, while viewing the technology used to locate oil and gas, as well as the equipment used to drill for the resources. She also recently learned of various forest fire management techniques and the importance of trees in our daily lives during a Teacher Forestry Tour and training in parts of Louisiana’s Kisatchie National Forest.
