Ariell Friedman

Ariell has a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronics and a Bachelor of Commerce. Since graduating, he has worked for a startup renewable hydro-energy company and has dabbled in web development on the side. He is currently completing a PhD at the Australian Centre for Field Robotics (ACFR) at the University of Sydney.

His area of research generally relates to the long-term monitoring of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) using benthic imaging Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs). The aim of Ariell's research is summarise the copius amounts of image data that are acquired from photographic benthic surveys by combining 3D structural information derived from bathymetry generated by stereo imagery and acoustic multi-beam with monocular image based features.

Expeditions

Ariell participated in the following Ocean Exploration Trust expeditions:
