Kristen Kanes is an Underwater Acoustic Analyst at Ocean Networks Canada, and a Master's student at the University of Victoria. She identifies marine mammal species and other sound sources in the acoustic record collected by Ocean Networks Canada, and provides these annotated data sets to acousticians wishing to use Ocean Networks Canada's data. For her thesis work, Kristen is using acoustic and other data sets collected by Ocean Networks Canada to study patterns of marine mammal vocal activity in Barkley Canyon.

Kristen Kanes graduated from the University of Victoria in 2013 with a Bachelor's degree in Biology and Co-operative Education. She is currently workin on her MSc in Earth and Ocean Sciences at the University of Victoria.
