Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution

Ellie Bors is a graduate student in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) Joint Program.  At WHOI, Ellie works with Dr. Timothy Shank in a deep-sea evolution and molecular ecology lab.  In 2011, Ellie traveled to New Zealand on a Fulbright Fellowship.  Her research overseas focused on the genetic connectivity of two common benthic invertebrates in the New Zealand region.  She is particularly interested in better understanding the dynamics of deep-sea populations and the ways that molecular biology research can inform marine conservation efforts.

Ellie graduated from the double degree program at Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music in 2009 with a Bachelor of Music in cello performance and a Bachelor of Arts in biology.
