Bringing in the Specimens

Following a dive on the Amsterdam mud volcano on July 28th, 2012 Hercules brings back a variety of geologic and biologic samples. The Amsterdam mud volcano lies within the Anaximander Mountains, located in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, south of Turkey. Scientists on board Nautilus bring samples into the wet lab for processing and further investigation. Biologic sampling gives scientists an idea of the species diversity and biological succession in this area. Geologic samples help scientists understand the chemical and geologic conditions that support these biological communities.
